§ 4.3. Protective Services

Latest version.
  • Police Services

The Greenwood City Police Department is located at 104 North Main Street in the City of Greenwood. There are three full-time officers with the Greenwood Police Department and there are part-time officers available as needed for special occasions. The department limits its service area to the city limits. Typically, there is one officer and one car on duty per shift. The City does have an agreement with the Local Police Department for shared services and the Clark County Sheriff can dispatch to the city to respond when needed. An advisory referendum passed in November of 2000 regarding the creation of new police facilities, but it did not include increased staff. This facility would likely be part of a City Hall/Library complex. There are initial plans to build the facility on the existing City Hall/Library site. Currently facility expansion is on hold due to budget constraints and will most likely be reviewed during the next budget cycle.

    Fire Protection Services

The Greenwood Fire Department is located at 103 Cannery Street. The department is staffed solely by volunteers; approximately 28 firemen. The department serves the communities of Hendren, Eaton, Mead, Foster, and Warner. Equipment includes a 1,500 GPM pumper, 750 GPM pumper, two water tank trucks, one brush buggy, and one rescue squad truck with Jaws of Life, and one fully equipped van. The department recently received funds from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant Program administered by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency. The funds will be used to buy 30 full sets of new turnout gear and eight self contained breathing apparatus. The city currently has a fire rating of seven.

The Greenwood Area Ambulance Service shares a facility with the Greenwood Fire Department. Both departments work very closely together. They are both run under the Greenwood Area Fire and Ambulance Association and both provide service to the same areas. Ambulance service is staffed by approximately 16 volunteers. The service has one ambulance which is only two years old. There are currently no immediate facility or equipment needs.

Refer to Map 4-1 of the Clark County Inventory and Trends Report for service area boundaries of the Greenwood Fire Department and the Greenwood Area Ambulance Service.
