§ 5.10. Surface Water Features

Latest version.
  • The most significant surface water feature in the city and in Clark County is the Black River. The river flows from north to south directly through the center of Clark County and through the western portion of the City of Greenwood. The river contains a variety of fish species, but is known specifically for its walleye, smallmouth bass, and musky fishing. Recreational use of the river for canoeing and kayaking has increased over the years as well. The Rock Creek flows from the Black River in the southern portion of the city.

A portion of the Black River has been identified by the WDNR as an impaired water. The river was identified due to low levels of dissolved oxygen, primarily attributed to point and non-point sources and also because of the destruction of habitat for aquatic organisms.
